My Arkansas Gaston Line migrated from Indiana to Montgomery County, Arkansas. My GG grandfather was James Bullock Gaston. He was born Feb.8, 1822, in Greene County, Indiana. He married Lucinda McConnell, born July 4,1827, in Missouri Township, Arkansas Territory, which later became Hempstead Co. She was the daughter of Robert McConnell and Sarah ? McConnell. James and Lucinda married on Feb.19, 1846 in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas. James died on July 16,1896 at the home of his son, Jack, in Gaston Township, Montgomery Co. Arkansas. James and Lucinda were the progenitors of the Gaston Community. James and Lucinda Gaston were my GG grandparents.

The Gaston Community is located in Montgomery County, Arkansas, probably about 10 miles west of Mt. Ida. It is certainly off the beaten path. I got to the Gaston Church and Cemetery by turning down the road leading to what was the Rocky Valley Community, where my Scott ancestors settled, and I drove down a dirt road most of the way, like I said, about 10 miles , and there it was. It is the most picturesque Church and Cemetery. There is a sign there, which says, Gaston Church and Cemetery. The church is white. Very well kept. The old water pump is still there, and working. The 2 outhouses, one for men, one for women, still standing. All the trees around the church are white-washed about half-way up their trunks, it is very pretty. The church is still in use every Sunday The cemetery sets out to the side of the church. It is also very well kept. There is a plaque on James Bullock Gaston and Lucinda McConnell Gaston's graves, proclaiming them as progenitors of the Gaston Community. I believe the Church and Cemetery are about all that's left of the original Gaston Community. I took many pictures while I was there, and I drive out there every time I go to Mt. Ida. It is a very lovely, peaceful setting.
